Chromebooks, iPads, SMARTBoards, Oh My!
New for the 2014-2015 school year: the Aquinas Academy Chromebook 1:1 Initiative.
Students in grades 4 through 8 have all purchased (at a discount through a specially-selected vendor) a Chromebook to use in conjunction with the school's Google Management System. Students use Google Classroom and a variety of educational apps to make learning interactive, accessible and fun. Science textbooks are now available online, offering our students and their families challenging learning opportunities. Teachers are also better equipped to address students' varied learning styles and tailor lessons to meet the individual needs of each student.
All classrooms, including all Aquinas Academy Preschool classrooms, are equipped with at least one iPad. These iPads are used in conjunction with Apple TV technology to connect to SMARTBoards and/or flat-screen televisions, which are also in some classrooms.
Aquinas Academy currently uses SMARTBoards to enhance the curriculum and further integrate technology into students' lessons. SMARTBoards are mounted in each Kindergarten Prep through Eighth Grade classroom as well as in the Media Center and Spanish/music room. Kindergarten Prep also has two SMART Tables. A SMARTBoard is an interactive whiteboard that connects to a projector and a computer. Students are able to use their fingers like a computer mouse to touch the SMARTBoard to interact with websites, programs, and teacher-made applications. SMARTBoards cater to tactile, auditory, and visual learners and are easily integrated into the general curricular subjects.
